Conversation with Zion about Adoption…

A few weeks after we arrived home with Zion, we had this conversation. It was such a sweet reminder to me of the realities behind adoption that I wanted to share it. In our adoption of Zion and of our sweet girl, the end goal is the same: to live out the Gospel in a way that makes Jesus look beautiful, to our friends, to our neighbors, and to children who were once without a family but are now welcomed in to ours.

Zion: “Mommy, no one is happy at —(the orphanage).”
Me: “Why do you say that?”
Zion: “Because their parents are not coming.”
Me: But some of the parents have come. Your parents came and A’s parents came and D’s parents and A’s parents. Were you sad at —(the orphanage)?”
Zion: “Yes, because you were not coming.”
Me: “I’m so sorry. That must have been really hard for you.”
Zion: “Were you trying to come?”
Me: “Yes, we were trying so hard to come.”
Zion: “But you didn’t know where I was?”
Me: “No, but we were praying and praying that God would show us where you were.”
Zion: “And God- He has shown you where I was?”
Me: “Yes.”
Zion: (does a little cheer then…) “Mommy, is Jesus the most beautiful?”
